An end…

of an era! This blog has been good to me, no doubt. But all good things must come to an end. RIP old WordPress blog….you’re being replaced with a newer, younger, much hotter blog!

Happy 2009!

sarajo-frieden

Enjoy this prettiness by Sarajo Frieden.

Mark and I have been arguing over the words to Auld Lang Syne. I refuse to Google it, just in case I’m wrong! 2008 was great; but 2009 will be even better!

KU football…

…will never be anything compared to SOONER football, but it’s fun nonetheless! As a part of my job at KU (I’m a photo editor in University Relations), I sometimes shoot KU events. Many of those don’t make for very exciting pictures, but football games are an exception. It’s hard not to get into the Rock Chalk spirit when you’re on the field at a football game! I’ll always be a Sooner, but I have to admit that being here in Lawrence has upped my Kansas spirit level a bit. It’s not such a bad place! :)

My very favorite image I shot is currently featured on the KU homepage. I love that Big Jay made it into the perfect spot in that frame at just the right time, and you can see a hint of the flag back there in the background:

I also really love this next one! It says it all with so little.

And a details shot…it’s habit.

Happy Thanksgiving!

My dog Baxter has a lot to be thankful for. He’s got a cushy life in a warm home, and he sleeps about 20 hours a day. I mean really, what more could a dog want? Well, the answer to that would be toothbrushes. He’s obsessed with them. If you leave an overnight bag on the floor, he’ll “unpack” it for you until he finds the toothbrush. And then he’s content.
We usually don’t give him toothbrushes, because he has a tendency to partially consume them rather then just chew them. However, it’s Thanksgiving, and I figure a dog’s life is too short to not have toothbrushes. So here he is enjoying one of his favorite things in life.
I hope you’re enjoying something that you love with people you love today as well!

I’d been looking forward to Ashley and Jason’s engagement shoot in Manhattan, KS since we scheduled it a few weeks back. The fall weather had been so nice, the trees were gorgeous, and Saturday promised to be a crisp, sunny fall day.
As Mark and I embarked on the drive out west at 7:30 in the morning, my heart sank. The cold, dark, dreary sky showed no signs of clearing up, nor did the freezing temperature seem to be rising.
But Ashley and Jason didn’t let the weather get them down! These determined souls decided to brave the elements, and although we couldn’t feel our extremities by the end of the evening, we got some really great shots of the two.
Ashley and Jason are the type of couple that every photographer dreams of. They are sweet, photogenic, and full of laughs! I had a ton of fun exploring Manhattan with them and I can’t wait to see the beautiful Ashley in a wedding dress!

Just too cool.

This is my friend Lacey. The warm, luxurious pool area that she is viewing through her rockin’ shades was one of the many warm, luxurious places in Las Vegas that she, I, and our friend Kristen (better known as “kv” when commenting on my blog) viewed through our shades this past weekend.
We laid by a pool just before we left Vegas. When I got home to KC last night, it was 28 degrees. Why can’t all of America be a desert?
This was taken with Mark’s 5 year old 3.2 megapixel point and shoot! When you’re accustomed to RAW files from a Canon 5D, the itty bitty little images from this old thing are really shocking! Anyone want to buy me a nice point and shoot for Christmas?? :)  I love this picture anyway though.

Becky and Mike won’t be getting married until next September, but Becky really wanted her engagement pictures to show off how beautiful Lawrence is in the fall. What says fall better than the gorgeous KU campus in early November? Not only are all of the trees incredible, glowing shades of crimson and gold, but the University of Kansas is extra special for these two. Mike proposed to Becky on a bench near Potter Lake that has one of the best views on campus.
We had a great time strolling through campus with their adorable dog Mazie. I think she was a little over-stimulated at first, with all of the new sights and smells of campus. However, it’s safe to say we wore her out by the end of the night!

This is the bench! The best one at Potter Lake, by far! Good job Mike!

Happy Halloween!

Pumpkin carving, cool crisp air, caramel apples! Yay for Halloween!!

I guess Baxter is a gansta’ for Halloween. He can’t stand all the real costumes we buy him. You should have seen the doggie cowboy boot fiasco…so shirts are about as much as we can get him to wear.

So…I’m a Sooner girl, but when I saw this stencil I just HAD to carve it! How cute is that?!

And this is Mark’s. It’s the whole family!

Newlyweds!

It was a warm day, just a few weeks ago but seemingly in the distant past…I remember that we were downright hot for the first hour or so! It’s amazing how much the season has changed in the past couple weeks.
Julie, Carlos, and I along with their wonderful videographer Andy spent some time goofing around Lawrence for their post-bridal session. After it was over, we headed over to Zen Zero for dinner, and let me tell you, we got some stares. Not only were Andy and I dining on savory pad thai and curry with a fully clad bride and groom, but the bottom half of Julie’s dress was covered in mud! That’s right; she got into the Kansas River! This is why I love you Julie!

My favorite from the session, and just about the very last one we took. It’s the Lawrence version of sitting on a bench in Paris by the Eiffel Tower. It’s just as good, right?!

See?? See the summer warmth? Do you remember that?!

I took SO many pictures of the gorgeous Julie at the wedding that I figured it was Carlos’ turn for some blog love.

I think this may be my version of the painting “American Gothic.” No pitchfork, I know, but there’s just something about it….

Hot!!!
